An evening of connection and Cologne brewery culture for students from TH Köln’s Buddy Program

Welcoming Culture in the Heart of Cologne – The Malzmühle brewery as a Historic Meeting Place

As one of Cologne’s oldest breweries, the “Malzmühle” is a traditional landmark steeped in the city’s history and renowned for its hospitality. With its rustic charm and unique blend of historical and modern elements, the brewery created a warm and inviting atmosphere that offered the predominantly international guests an authentic taste of Cologne's vibrant spirit.

Diversity as a Lived Value

The Malzmühle brewery represents not only tradition but also a celebration of openness and diversity, employing 160 staff members from 25 nations. It was the perfect setting for an evening dedicated to intercultural exchange. On November 14, 2024, the Kölsche Dinner brought together 50 students from various countries and academic disciplines at the Malzmühle. Over hearty food and freshly tapped Kölsch, the event offered students a unique chance to immerse themselves in Cologne’s culture while connecting with fellow students and the team from the International Affairs Office. A thoroughly successful evening!

A Night of Sharing Over "Himmel un Äd"

The diversity of the participants was reflected in the food choices: fan favorites included pork knuckle and vegan meatloaf. After all, “Jede Jeck is anders!”. Feedback from attendees was overwhelmingly positive. “It was a fantastic opportunity not only to meet new people in Cologne but also to learn more about life in the city and the opportunities available at TH Köln,” shared one student from India, who had just started his bachelor’s degree in engineering.

What’s Next?

The Kölsche Dinner was a resounding success and will now be held annually as part of the “Ready, Study, Go” project. This new TH Köln initiative, funded by the DAAD, aims to support international degree-seeking students in achieving academic success and starting their careers in the Cologne region. You can find all upcoming events and offerings on the Ready, Study, Go website.
