About us
Energy transition, transport transition, food transition and climate neutrality - the management of natural resources will (have to) change in the coming decades. This transformation will decisively shape economic, social and ecological developments and can only be managed through rethinking and well-planned and coordinated infrastructure measures.
This is precisely where the Faculty of Spatial Development and Infrastructure Systems starts. Founded in 2019, it addresses the societal challenges in an inter- and transdisciplinary manner. For this purpose, it pursues an application-oriented approach, which is primarily demonstrated by the work in real laboratories in a co-design process with local actors*. The faculty builds on the structures and experience of the Institute for Technology and Resource Management in the Tropics and Subtropics (ITT) at the TH Köln, which has grown over more than 40 years.

Training specialists for global requirements
Together with representatives of politics, business and civil society, we identify problems in research and teaching and develop socially innovative solution strategies. Practical and locally generated knowledge from living labs is transferred via university partnerships to the global level and applied there. The faculty's approach is systems-oriented, resource-based, stakeholder-oriented, and international. Networking across borders strengthens awareness of global citizenship.
The faculty trains professionals who are familiar with global transformation processes and can manage the complex interconnections of social, economic and ecological demands. In international teams, they address real problems and use digital solutions. In this way, graduates acquire elementary skills that enable them to compete confidently in an internationally oriented job market.
