Co-Site | Transformation Network

The Transformation Network serves as a vital link to society, fostering collaboration and grounding Co-Site within our region. Leveraging this network, we identify needs and actively support sustainable developments in the area.

We view the exchange of ideas, knowledge, and technology as a fundamental responsibility of TH Köln, deeply rooted in research, teaching, and continuing education. Our objective is to propel society forward on a scientific foundation by addressing current challenges spanning social, technological, cultural, ecological, and economic realms. Our perspective on transfer extends beyond a one-way process; instead, we see it as a dynamic form of collaboration in multiple directions. Transfer, for us, embodies a reciprocal exchange between research and stakeholders from civil society, business, culture, and politics.

Within the project, we forge valuable connections with representatives from municipalities, districts, organizations, and companies in our region. By bringing together stakeholders with diverse needs and requirements, we cultivate a robust network. Through this expanding network, we firmly anchor the ideas and concepts of Co-Site for the long term. The outcomes are transferred to ongoing projects, future initiatives, and other cities and districts in our region, aligning with our climate change prevention strategy—we learn from and with each other.

The Project Regions

Co-Site launches with a focus on four model regions: Erftstadt, Kerpen, Leverkusen, and Rhein-Erft-Kreis. These regions, notably impacted by recent climate extremes, are actively seeking solutions. The escalating challenges of drought and heat pose a significant regional hurdle, underscored by the adverse impacts observed during the drought years of 2018-2020. Germany also grapples with the increasing occurrence of heavy rainfall events and extreme flooding, as evidenced by the devastating floods in 2021 that affected the entire region. Managing flood risks is a shared concern for all project regions, and Co-Site is committed to addressing these challenges collaboratively.
