Demographic change and progress in medical technology are leading to an increased usage of electric mobility aids. More and more new concepts of urban transport are emerging to bridge the distances from stops of public transport to, for example, to get home or to the workplace.
At present, these cannot be transported by railways because they pose a particular danger in the event of accidents. In order to enable safe travel by rail, safe carriage must be guaranteed. The multi-purpose compartment of a train offers space for the storage of external means of transport.
In order to place already existing means of transport as well as future concepts in such a compartment and to validate developments of new fastening possibilities, a multi-purpose compartment was designed and constructed in original scale. Since May 2016, it has offered the vehicle engineers at the Deutz Campus a platform for new developments.
