Calculation method of the durability of dynamically stressed lightweight fiber composite components
Due to their weight advantage, fiber composite materials are increasingly being used for structural components in the automotive industry. At present, there is no satisfactory solution for calculating the durability of these components. One consequence of this deficit is that such components are designed very conservatively and are therefore too heavy.
Within the framework of the present project, a method which develops a mathematical model and implements it in a commercial calculation program is provided. The theoretical model takes up breakage criteria from models for static calculation and implements factors for residual strength and stiffness degradation, taking into account load quantities and load sequences. All models known so far only refer to very special structures and are hardly applicable in practice. The model to be developed within the scope of this project, however, should cover all aspects.
