International Germany Alumni Training Seminar | Tropentag Conference 2023
On behalf of the DAAD, the Institute for Technology and Resources Management in the Tropics and Subtropics (ITT) at TH Köln welcomes alumni from German universities and research institutions and the ITT to the presence phase of the International Germany Alumni Seminar 2023 Biodiversity and food security nexus: Species-rich tropical forests as core areas for sustainable agriculture.
Following a constructive and work-intensive online phase, the presence phase will start on September 12 with a welcome session by the ITT and the TH Köln, and alumni from 20 countries will discuss their groupwork results and finalize their contributions for the international Tropentag conference, which will take place at the on the Campus Mitte of Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin, Germany from September 20-22, 2023.
Open Sessions at the Campus Deutz
On 14 September at 13:00 and on 15 September at 13:00, open sessions will be held at ITT (room ZO-4-8), and students, staff and alumni of ITT are welcome to participate in video pitchings, poster introductions, talks and discussions.
Two Pre-Conference Workshops
The second part of the presence session starts with the bus trip to Berlin on 18 September. On Tuesday 19 September, alumni will participate in the pre-conference workshop ‘Unregulated small-scale gold mining (galamsey) operations destroying farmlands, biodiversity and natural habitats: Exploring pathways for food security in Africa’ offered by John-Baptist Naah, Eric Nyarko and Sabine Schlüter. Thereafter, the welcome ceremony by the DAAD will start, a good opportunity for meeting with alumni of other universities.
On Wednesday, the alumni will take part in the pre-conference workshop ‘Integrating stakeholders‘ perspectives into scientific communication’ which will be led by Claudia Raedig and Sabine Schlüter. In this workshop, the alumni will introduce videos and posters produced during the seminar and discuss their work with workshop participants.
Tropentag 2023 Conference
After the workshop, the alumni will participate in the Tropentag 2023 Conference. ITT is looking very forward to receiving our future change agents for biodiversity and food security at our university, and joining with them at an international and interdisciplinary conference!
