Altmetrics refers to a field of research that emerged from bibliometrics and focuses on the quantitative evaluation of science communication in network media. Altmetrics, in contrast to bibliometrics, is a much more complex system: content from a variety of different sources flows together in very different ways, containing very different statements. This complexity has so far blocked the way to a more sophisticated indicator system. The project aims to develop such a robust indicator for Altmetrics. To this end, the project will examine and evaluate sources, content, significance and functionalities in detail in order to move from the current article level to an indicatoric that also takes into account the fact that Altmetrics function according to the rules of mass communication rather than those of science communication.
