QueerBiL
Queerness in Higher Education for Library and Information Science
In Germany, around 11% of people identify as queer. In library science research this should be reflected in projects, publications and discussions on queer users, their reading habits and needs, as well as in the visibility of queer library people and queer perspectives from within and on library science research and practice. However, this is not the case in Germany. This indicates that, in addition to the personal positioning and self-image of libraries, we should also focus on the higher education in library and infromation science that future librarians go through. Queer topics, people and perspectives should be visible and present there in order to be incorporated into research and practice later on. This is also an important issue for librarians themselves. QueerBiL is therefore dedicated to the research questions of where and how queer topics, people and perspectives are present in library science higher education and where and how they can be present and interact in the future.
