AI-powered solutions for deforestation-free coffee: Advancing sustainability and compliance with the EU's EUDR regulation.
Agriculture significantly contributes to global deforestation.
The EU's **EUDR regulation (European Union Deforestation-Free Regulation)** aims to counteract this by banning the import of certain agricultural products, including coffee, linked to deforestation after December 31, 2020. Starting in 2025 (postponed from December 30, 2024), coffee importers must use remote sensing and on-site sampling to prove their products are deforestation-free.
In the **AI4SusCo** research project, we collaborate with **GRAS Global Risk Assessment Services GmbH** to develop technological solutions using advanced Deep Learning approaches and remote sensing data that make coffee certification ore efficient and accurate. This contributes to the sustainable development of the coffee industry, rainforest preservation, and climate protection.
